1Tragic waste of time!  Jun 23, 2010
What a tragic waste of time!
I want the three hours I spent assembling and then deconstructing this thing back. The reviewer who called it tinker toys was being too generous.
The product assembly is pretty straight forward; dowels and bars that you stick together. The problem lies in the fact that the dowels are too small for the holes drilled in the bars that are supposed to hold the whole thing together. About half of them were too small to even stay in the holes while holding the bar up to put the whole thing together. A secondary issue is that holes are not drilled uniformly into the bars...several of them are seriously off center creating a bit of a lean to the whole rack. The directions say that if there was concern about stability, they suggest taking each of the dowels on the horizontal stretches and crimping the end with a pair of pliers then applying glue (not included) prior to inserting into the bar. I can't even imagine how much longer that process would have taken.
The final indicator that this thing wasn't going to work should have been when I had to find my husband's tie down straps to hold the rack together before putting wine bottles into it. But I was not deterred! After spending 2 hours to put the thing together I was motivated to get our wine put away.
Tie down racks in place, and rack shoved into the corner to stabilize it, I started unloading our wine. Once case spread out over the two conjoined racks and I was feeling good. The second case didn't go so smoothly. After I put the second bottle from the second case in I heard dowels hit the floor. Two of them. The third bottle sent another dowel to the floor and part of the rack started to separate. One bottle hit the floor and that was enough.
After I removed the tie down straps the demolition was inadvertently underway. The right side of the rack separated immediately. After putting the entire dowel system together using a rubber mallet, most of the dowels pulled free with very little effort. It took less than 45 minutes to pull apart the 2 racks and repackage them in the original boxes.
Save your time and spend a little more money for something that works.

3j.k.Adams MWR 40 bottle wine rack natural  May 29, 2010
The wine rack color was nice It was not hard to put together but when you tried to put all the pegs in place some would come out of holes .This was very frustrating.we had to glue most of them in place and then they still slipped out of place before they dried.
Some parts were missing when I recieved the product so I Emailed amazon.com and they sent a whole new rack and the other one was sent back free with no problems. It came the next day.Shipping was very good came before expected date.

4Nice design but ...  May 22, 2010
The design of the rack is great - it allows you to construct the rack in a variety of configurations and the simple 'tinker toy' assembly goes fast. HOWEVER, the design relies on the connector pins to have a friction-fit and not all the pins are sized the same, so some are undersized and just fall out. This is expected, so they provide you plenty of extra pins so you can toss the undersized ones and try another until you get a good fit. As mentioned elsewhere, a rubber mallet works great to secure the pins in place.

Well, only 30% of my pins were properly sized, all the rest were too loose. I assembled the rack anyway and the rack splayed in several places causing the bottles to fall through. I ended up gluing all the horizontal connectors (there's 84 of them), the vertical connectors have the weight of the bottles to keep them in place. Given that most buyers did not have the same experience, I assume either I got a bad batch of connector pins or the dry climate here contributed to this problem. Just be forewarned that you too may end up having to glue some of this rack together, which is a production in itself (gluing, clamping, curing, etc.)

5Wine racks  Mar 08, 2010
We bought 6 boxes to make a large set of wineracks. It took the whole weekend but it was worth it.We bolted it with angle irons to the cement floor so it won't sway too much in an earthquake. It looks great-we even built small one for wine refrigerator.Very sturdy. The recommendation to put glue in the vertical pegs was a good one.

4Meets expectations  Mar 06, 2010
Just received this nice wine rack and got it put together in about 30 minutes. Very clear instructions. Seems sturdy and is unobtrusive. Wine bottles seem to fit securely. So far, so good!
